Care Provider Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I work with an agency?2020-06-10T23:47:19+00:00
  • Safety: Do you really know who you are communicating with on the online sites? An agency works hard to develop a relationship with the families they represent.
  • Better pay: Care providers tend to have access to higher paying jobs. Families seek out agencies to provide them with fully vetted applicants.
  • Credibility: Working with an agency, you’ll set yourself apart as a true professional from the myriad of self-proclaimed professionals on the online sites.
  • Support: A good agency will advocate for you, offer support before, during and after placement, and provide opportunities for you to access professional resources, continuing education, and social events.
How much does it pay?2020-06-10T23:45:27+00:00

We do not charge any fees to any care providers.

Are there any additional expenses I would have to pay for?2020-06-10T23:49:47+00:00

We try to keep additional expenses to a minimum for all our care providers. You will be required to keep up your CPR/First Aid certifications. We will also have opportunities for continuing education which you can choose to take. Choose The Right Nanny offers scholarships frequently to help offset these costs.

If I take a live-in position and must move, how are relocation expenses paid?2020-06-10T23:51:05+00:00

Expenses for your relocation are paid by the family. This does not include furniture or a rental truck as most families can only accommodate your personal items. The family will generally pay for travel, meals, gasoline, and lodging if necessary.

When a family hires me, do I need a work agreement?2020-06-10T23:52:10+00:00

CTRN recommends all positions begin with a written work agreement. This is essential to a successful transition and defines the expectations clearly. We offer a work agreement template which can be customized. The work agreement should detail out the job, responsibilities, living situation, pay, overtime, taxes, benefits, vacation, PTO, confidentiality, and termination specifics. We will also refer to you the appropriate professionals if necessary.

Do I have to pay taxes?2020-06-10T23:54:09+00:00

It may be tempting to not pay taxes on your earning because you’ll have a little more money in your check. However, according to the IRS Nanny taxes are Federal, Social Security and Medicare (FICA) taxes, and you’re legally obligated to pay them. Your employer should withhold taxes and pay their portion of the tax, if you are paid $2,200 or more in calendar year 2020.

You may have heard from friends that they do not pay nanny taxes, instead choosing to be paid “off the books” or “under-the-table”. This practice, while common, is illegal and there are significant risks associated with it.

Here are some reasons why you should pay your fair taxes:

  • It’s the right (legal) thing to do. There are penalties if you do not.
  • You’ll be paying into the Social Security System toward retirement
  • You’ll be eligible for Medicare when you need it.
  • You’ll be eligible for unemployment insurance should you lose your job
  • Builds your credit history. How do you get a loan without a job history?
  • You’ll be able to file your taxes at the end of the year with appropriate paperwork
  • You may receive a tax refund!

When you and your employer agree to pay ‘off the books’ you are mutually agreeing to break the law. Choose The Right Nanny encourages all families to pay fair and legally.

CTRN employs our temporary team, and as such, pay all our employees legally.
